Practical Magic is set in a fictional, historic Massachusetts town where the witchy Owens family lives, but the iconic Owens house from the movie was built on San Juan Island, Washington, while the town scenes were filmed in Coupeville, Washington (standing in for coastal MA), creating a classic New England feel in the Pacific Northwest. 

The story follows sisters Sally and Gillian Owens as they navigate love, family curses, and embracing their magical heritage, inspired by Alice Hoffman's novel, with the film highlighting their magical house and small-town atmosphere.
